CVE-2024-47824 – Malicious homeservers can steal message keys when the matrix-react-sdk user invites another user to a room
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2024-47824
matrix-react-sdk is react-based software development kit for inserting a Matrix chat/VOIP client into a web page. Starting in version 3.18.0 and before 3.102.0, matrix-react-sdk allows a malicious homeserver to potentially steal message keys for a room when a user invites another user to that room, via injection of a malicious device controlled by the homeserver. This is possible because matrix-react-sdk before 3.102.0 shared historical message keys on invite. Version 3.102.0 fixes this issue by disabling sharing message keys on invite by removing calls to the vulnerable functionality. No known workarounds are available. • https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/security/advisories/GHSA-qcvh-p9jq-wp8v https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/pull/12618 https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/commit/6fc9d7641c51ca3db8225cf58b9d6e6fdd2d6556 • CWE-200: Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor •
CVE-2024-42347 – URL preview setting for a room is controllable by the homeserver in matrix-react-sdk
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2024-42347
matrix-react-sdk is a react-based SDK for inserting a Matrix chat/voip client into a web page. A malicious homeserver could manipulate a user's account data to cause the client to enable URL previews in end-to-end encrypted rooms, in which case any URLs in encrypted messages would be sent to the server. This was patched in matrix-react-sdk 3.105.0. Deployments that trust their homeservers, as well as closed federations of trusted servers, are not affected. Users are advised to upgrade. • https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/releases/tag/v3.105.1 https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/security/advisories/GHSA-f83w-wqhc-cfp4 • CWE-359: Exposure of Private Personal Information to an Unauthorized Actor •
CVE-2023-37259 – Cross site scripting in Export Chat feature
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2023-37259
matrix-react-sdk is a react-based SDK for inserting a Matrix chat/voip client into a web page. The Export Chat feature includes certain attacker-controlled elements in the generated document without sufficient escaping, leading to stored Cross site scripting (XSS). Since the Export Chat feature generates a separate document, an attacker can only inject code run from the `null` origin, restricting the impact. However, the attacker can still potentially use the XSS to leak message contents. A malicious homeserver is a potential attacker since the affected inputs are controllable server-side. • https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/commit/22fcd34c606f32129ebc967fc21f24fb708a98b8 https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/security/advisories/GHSA-c9vx-2g7w-rp65 • CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') •
CVE-2023-30609 – matrix-react-sdk vulnerable to HTML injection in search results via plaintext message highlighting
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2023-30609
matrix-react-sdk is a react-based SDK for inserting a Matrix chat/VoIP client into a web page. Prior to version 3.71.0, plain text messages containing HTML tags are rendered as HTML in the search results. To exploit this, an attacker needs to trick a user into searching for a specific message containing an HTML injection payload. No cross-site scripting attack is possible due to the hardcoded content security policy. Version 3.71.0 of the SDK patches over the issue. • https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/commit/bf182bc94556849d7acdfa0e5fdea2aa129ea826 https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/releases/tag/v3.71.0 https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/security/advisories/GHSA-xv83-x443-7rmw • CWE-74: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component ('Injection') •
CVE-2022-36060 – Prototype pollution in matrix-react-sdk
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2022-36060
matrix-react-sdk is a Matrix chat protocol SDK for React Javascript. Events sent with special strings in key places can temporarily disrupt or impede the matrix-react-sdk from functioning properly, such as by causing room or event tile crashes. The remainder of the application can appear functional, though certain rooms/events will not be rendered. This issue has been fixed in matrix-react-sdk 3.53.0 and users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability. • https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-sdk/security/advisories/GHSA-2x9c-qwgf-94xr • CWE-1321: Improperly Controlled Modification of Object Prototype Attributes ('Prototype Pollution') •
