Descriptions

The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) component in Oracle Java SE 7 Update 17 and earlier, 6 Update 43 and earlier, 5.0 Update 41 and earlier, and JavaFX 2.2.7 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors related to 2D, as demonstrated by Joshua Drake during a Pwn2Own competition at CanSecWest 2013.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Oracle Java. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the handling of CFF-based OpenType fonts. The issue lies in two operators that allow for reading and writing elements beyond the allocated buffers. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code under the context of the current process.

This update corrects several security vulnerabilities in the IBM Java Runtime Environment shipped as part of Red Hat Network Satellite Server 5.5. In a typical operating environment, these are of low security risk as the runtime is not used on untrusted applets. Several flaws were fixed in the IBM Java 2 Runtime Environment.
