Descriptions
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 through 11 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code and bypass a sandbox protection mechanism by leveraging "object confusion" in a broker process, as demonstrated by VUPEN during a Pwn2Own competition at CanSecWest 2014.
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Microsoft Internet Explorer. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the processing of data shared to the broker by the sandboxed process. The issue lies in the failure to validate an object's type. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code as the context of the current user at medium integrity.
VUPEN Vulnerability Research Team discovered a critical vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The vulnerability is caused by an object confusion vulnerability when processing object types within data shared between the broker and sandboxed processes, which could be exploited by a sandboxed process to achieve code execution within the broker context and bypass IE Protected Mode sandbox. Versions 8, 9, 10, and 11 are affected.
