Descriptions
The _asn1_extract_der_octet function in lib/decoding.c in GNU Libtasn1 before 4.8, when used without the ASN1_DECODE_FLAG_STRICT_DER flag, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite recursion) via a crafted certificate.
USN-2957-1 fixed a vulnerability in Libtasn1. This update provides the corresponding update for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Pascal Cuoq and Miod Vallat discovered that Libtasn1 incorrectly handled certain malformed DER certificates. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to cause applications using Libtasn1 to hang, resulting in a denial of service. Various other issues were also addressed.
