Descriptions

Two stack-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities have been discovered in CX-One Versions 4.42 and prior (CX-Programmer Versions 9.66 and prior and CX-Server Versions 5.0.23 and prior). When processing project files, the application allows input data to exceed the buffer. An attacker could use a specially crafted project file to overflow the buffer and execute code under the privileges of the application.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of OMRON CX-One. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the parsing of CXP files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process.
