This vulnerability allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Apple macOS. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.
The specific flaw exists within the handling of Mach messages to the Dock. The issue results from the lack of proper initialization of a pointer prior to accessing it. An attacker could leverage this vulnerability to execute code within the context of the Dock process.
macOS High Sierra 10.13.5, Security Update 2018-003 Sierra, and Security Update 2018-003 El Capitan are now available and address buffer overflow, code execution, and denial of service vulnerabilities.
