This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on vulnerable installations of Apple iOS. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.
The specific flaw exists within the handling of cypc messages within the mediaserverd service. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a memory access past the end of an allocated object. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute code in the context of root.
macOS Mojave 10.14.3, Security Update 2019-001 High Sierra, Security Update 2019-001 Sierra are now available and addresses buffer overflow, code execution, and denial of service vulnerabilities.
