Mozilla developers and community members reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 77. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 78.

Multiple security issues were discovered in Firefox. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted website, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service, obtain sensitive information, bypass permission prompts, or execute arbitrary code. It was discovered that when performing add-on updates, certificate chains not terminating with built-in roots were silently rejected. This could result in add-ons becoming outdated. Various other issues were also addressed.
