A vulnerability has been identified in Simcenter Femap (All versions < V2022.1.1). Affected application contains a stack based buffer overflow vulnerability while parsing specially crafted BDF files. This could allow an attacker to execute code in the context of the current process. (ZDI-CAN-15061)

Se ha identificado una vulnerabilidad en Simcenter Femap (Todas las versiones anteriores a V2022.1.1). La aplicación afectada contiene una vulnerabilidad de desbordamiento de búfer en la región stack de la memoria al analizar archivos BDF especialmente diseñados. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Siemens Simcenter Femap. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the parsing of BDF files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a stack-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process.
