The issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in macOS Monterey 12.7.4, macOS Ventura 13.6.5, macOS Sonoma 14.4, visionOS 1.1, iOS 16.7.6 and iPadOS 16.7.6. Processing an image may result in disclosure of process memory.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of Apple macOS. Interaction with the ImageIO framework is required to exploit this vulnerability but attack vectors may vary depending on the implementation.
The specific flaw exists within the ImageIO framework. Crafted data in a JP2 image can trigger access to a pointer prior to initialization. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process.
