An out-of-bounds access issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in macOS Ventura 13.7, iOS 17.7 and iPadOS 17.7, visionOS 2, watchOS 11, macOS Sequoia 15, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, macOS Sonoma 14.7, tvOS 18. Processing an image may lead to a denial-of-service.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Apple macOS. Interaction with the ImageIO framework is required to exploit this vulnerability but attack vectors may vary depending on the implementation.
The specific flaw exists within the ImageIO framework. Crafted data in a JP2 image can trigger a write past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process.
