Descriptions

A directory path traversal vulnerability exists when loading a vsmodel file in NI VeriStand that may result in remote code execution. Successful exploitation requires an attacker to get a user to open a specially crafted .vsmodel file. This vulnerability affects VeriStand 2024 Q2 and prior versions.

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of NI VeriStand. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the parsing of VSMODEL files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied path prior to using it in file operations. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current user.
