Like many other SSH implementations, Apache MINA SSHD suffered from the issue that is more widely known as CVE-2023-48795. An attacker that can intercept traffic between client and server could drop certain packets from the stream, potentially causing client and server to consequently end up with a connection for which some security features have been downgraded or disabled, aka a Terrapin attack The mitigations to prevent this type of attack were implemented in Apache MINA SSHD 2.12.0, both client and server side. Users are recommended to upgrade to at least this version. Note that both the client and the server implementation must have mitigations applied against this issue, otherwise the connection may still be affected. A flaw was found in Apache MINA SSHD. • https://github.com/apache/mina-sshd/issues/445 https://lists.apache.org/thread/vwf1ot8wx1njyy8n19j5j2tcnjnozt3b https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2024-41909 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2304442 • CWE-354: Improper Validation of Integrity Check Value •

In Apache MINA, a specifically crafted, malformed HTTP request may cause the HTTP Header decoder to loop indefinitely. The decoder assumed that the HTTP Header begins at the beginning of the buffer and loops if there is more data than expected. Please update MINA to 2.1.5 or greater. Handling of the close_notify SSL/TLS message does not lead to a connection closure, leading the server to retain the socket opened and to have the client potentially receive clear text messages afterward. Mitigation: 2.0.20 users should migrate to 2.0.21, 2.1.0 users should migrate to 2.1.1. This issue affects: Apache MINA. • http://mina.apache.org/mina-project/index.html#mina-211-mina-2021-released-posted-on-april-14-2019 https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2019-0231 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1700016 • CWE-319: Cleartext Transmission of Sensitive Information •

An issue was discovered in OpenSSH 7.9. Due to the scp implementation being derived from 1983 rcp, the server chooses which files/directories are sent to the client. However, the scp client only performs cursory validation of the object name returned (only directory traversal attacks are prevented). A malicious scp server (or Man-in-The-Middle attacker) can overwrite arbitrary files in the scp client target directory. If recursive operation (-r) is performed, the server can manipulate subdirectories as well (for example, to overwrite the .ssh/authorized_keys file). • https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/46516 https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/46193 http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2019-06/msg00058.html http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2019/04/18/1 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/08/02/1 http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/106741 https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2019:3702 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1677794 https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/pdf/ssa-412672&# • CWE-20: Improper Input Validation CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') •
