CVE-2023-7216 – Cpio: extraction allows symlinks which enables remote command execution
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2023-7216
A path traversal vulnerability was found in the CPIO utility. This issue could allow a remote unauthenticated attacker to trick a user into opening a specially crafted archive. During the extraction process, the archiver could follow symlinks outside of the intended directory, which allows files to be written in arbitrary directories through symlinks. Se encontró una vulnerabilidad de path traversal en la utilidad CPIO. Este problema podría permitir que un atacante remoto no autenticado engañe a un usuario para que abra un archivo especialmente manipulado. • https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2023-7216 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2249901 • CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') CWE-59: Improper Link Resolution Before File Access ('Link Following') •
CVE-2021-38185 – cpio: integer overflow in ds_fgetstr() in dstring.c can lead to an out-of-bounds write via a crafted pattern file
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2021-38185
GNU cpio through 2.13 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted pattern file, because of a dstring.c ds_fgetstr integer overflow that triggers an out-of-bounds heap write. NOTE: it is unclear whether there are common cases where the pattern file, associated with the -E option, is untrusted data. A flaw was found in cpio. CVE-2019-14866 – cpio: improper input validation when writing tar header fields leads to unexpected tar generation
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2019-14866
In all versions of cpio before 2.13 does not properly validate input files when generating TAR archives. When cpio is used to create TAR archives from paths an attacker can write to, the resulting archive may contain files with permissions the attacker did not have or in paths he did not have access to. Extracting those archives from a high-privilege user without carefully reviewing them may lead to the compromise of the system. • https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2019-14866 https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/06/msg00007.html https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-cpio/2019-08/msg00003.html https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-cpio/2019-11/msg00000.html https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2019-14866 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1765511 • CWE-20: Improper Input Validation •
CVE-2016-2037
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2016-2037
The cpio_safer_name_suffix function in util.c in cpio 2.11 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write) via a crafted cpio file. La función cpio_safer_name_suffix en util.c en cpio 2.11 permite a atacantes remotos causar una denegación de servicio (escritura fuera de rango) através de un archivo cpio manipulado. • http://www.debian.org/security/2016/dsa-3483 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2016/01/19/4 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2016/01/22/4 http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/82293 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1035067 http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/USN-2906-1 • CWE-119: Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer •
CVE-2015-1197 – Zimbra Collaboration Suite TAR Path Traversal
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2015-1197
cpio 2.11, when using the --no-absolute-filenames option, allows local users to write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a file in an archive. cpio 2.11, cuando utiliza la opción --no-absolute-filenames, permite a usuarios locales escribir ficheros arbitrarios a través de un ataque de enlace simbólico sobre un fichero en un archivo. • http://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2015-0080.html http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/169458/Zimbra-Collaboration-Suite-TAR-Path-Traversal.html http://www.mandriva.com/security/advisories?name=MDVSA-2015:066 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2015/01/07/5 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2015/01/18/7 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2023/12/21/8 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2023/12/27/1 http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/71914& •
