Webpack is a module bundler. Its main purpose is to bundle JavaScript files for usage in a browser, yet it is also capable of transforming, bundling, or packaging just about any resource or asset. The webpack developers have discovered a DOM Clobbering vulnerability in Webpack’s `AutoPublicPathRuntimeModule`. The DOM Clobbering gadget in the module can lead to cross-site scripting (XSS) in web pages where scriptless attacker-controlled HTML elements (e.g., an `img` tag with an unsanitized `name` attribute) are present. Real-world exploitation of this gadget has been observed in the Canvas LMS which allows a XSS attack to happen through a javascript code compiled by Webpack (the vulnerable part is from Webpack). • https://github.com/webpack/webpack/commit/955e057abc6cc83cbc3fa1e1ef67a49758bf5a61 https://github.com/webpack/webpack/security/advisories/GHSA-4vvj-4cpr-p986 https://research.securitum.com/xss-in-amp4email-dom-clobbering https://scnps.co/papers/sp23_domclob.pdf https://github.com/webpack/webpack/issues/18718#issuecomment-2326296270 https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2024-43788 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2308193 • CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') •

Prior to versions 7.1.0, 6.1.2, and 5.3.4, the webpack-dev-middleware development middleware for devpack does not validate the supplied URL address sufficiently before returning the local file. It is possible to access any file on the developer's machine. The middleware can either work with the physical filesystem when reading the files or it can use a virtualized in-memory `memfs` filesystem. If `writeToDisk` configuration option is set to `true`, the physical filesystem is used. The `getFilenameFromUrl` method is used to parse URL and build the local file path. • https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-middleware/blob/7ed24e0b9f53ad1562343f9f517f0f0ad2a70377/src/utils/getFilenameFromUrl.js#L82 https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-middleware/blob/7ed24e0b9f53ad1562343f9f517f0f0ad2a70377/src/utils/setupOutputFileSystem.js#L21 https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-middleware/commit/189c4ac7d2344ec132a4689e74dc837ec5be0132 https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-middleware/commit/9670b3495da518fe667ff3428c5e4cb9f2f3d353 https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-middleware/commit/e10008c762e4d5821ed6990348dabf0d4d93a10e https://github.com/w • CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') •

Webpack 5 before 5.76.0 does not avoid cross-realm object access. ImportParserPlugin.js mishandles the magic comment feature. An attacker who controls a property of an untrusted object can obtain access to the real global object. A flaw was found in the webpack package, which could allow a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions caused by the mishandling of the magic comment feature by the ImportParserPlugin.js. This flaw allows an attacker to gain access to the real global object by sending a specially-crafted request. • https://github.com/webpack/webpack/compare/v5.75.0...v5.76.0 https://github.com/webpack/webpack/pull/16500 https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/AU7BOXTBK3KDYSWH67ASZ22TUIOZ3X5G https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/PPSAXUTXBCCTAHTCX5BUR4YVP25XALQ3 https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/U2AFCM6FFE3LRYI6KNEQWKMXMQOBZQ2D https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2023&# • CWE-269: Improper Privilege Management •

In webpack-subresource-integrity before version 1.5.1, all dynamically loaded chunks receive an invalid integrity hash that is ignored by the browser, and therefore the browser cannot validate their integrity. This removes the additional level of protection offered by SRI for such chunks. Top-level chunks are unaffected. This issue is patched in version 1.5.1. En webpack-subresource-integration versiones anteriores a 1.5.1, todos los fragmentos cargados dinámicamente reciben un hash de integridad no válido que es ignorado por el navegador y, por lo tanto, el navegador no puede comprobar su integridad. • https://github.com/waysact/webpack-subresource-integrity/commit/3d7090c08c333fcfb10ad9e2d6cf72e2acb7d87f https://github.com/waysact/webpack-subresource-integrity/issues/131 https://github.com/waysact/webpack-subresource-integrity/security/advisories/GHSA-4fc4-chg7-h8gh • CWE-345: Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity •

An issue was discovered in lib/Server.js in webpack-dev-server before 3.1.6. Attackers are able to steal developer's code because the origin of requests is not checked by the WebSocket server, which is used for HMR (Hot Module Replacement). Anyone can receive the HMR message sent by the WebSocket server via a ws://127.0.0.1:8080/ connection from any origin. • https://blog.cal1.cn/post/Sniffing%20Codes%20in%20Hot%20Module%20Reloading%20Messages https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-server/commit/f18e5adf123221a1015be63e1ca2491ca45b8d10 https://github.com/webpack/webpack-dev-server/issues/1445 • CWE-20: Improper Input Validation •
