GNU Bash through 4.3 processes trailing strings after function definitions in the values of environment variables, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted environment, as demonstrated by vectors involving the ForceCommand feature in OpenSSH sshd, the mod_cgi and mod_cgid modules in the Apache HTTP Server, scripts executed by unspecified DHCP clients, and other situations in which setting the environment occurs across a privilege boundary from Bash execution, aka "ShellShock." NOTE: the original fix for this issue was incorrect; CVE-2014-7169 has been assigned to cover the vulnerability that is still present after the incorrect fix. Stack-based buffer overflow in lib/sh/eaccess.c in GNU Bash before 4.2 patch 33 might allow local users to bypass intended restricted shell access via a long filename in /dev/fd, which is not properly handled when expanding the /dev/fd prefix. • ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/bash/bash-4.2-patches/bash42-033 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681278 http://secunia.com/advisories/51086 http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-201210-05.xml http://www.mandriva.com/security/advisories?name=MDVSA-2012:128 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2012/07/11/11 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2012/07/11/22 http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2012/07/12/4 http://www.secu • CWE-119: Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer •
