The transit path validation code in Heimdal before 7.3 might allow attackers to bypass the capath policy protection mechanism by leveraging failure to add the previous hop realm to the transit path of issued tickets. • http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-updates/2017-08/msg00062.html http://www.h5l.org/advisories.html?show=2017-04-13 https://github.com/heimdal/heimdal/commit/b1e699103f08d6a0ca46a122193c9da65f6cf837 https://github.com/heimdal/heimdal/releases/tag/heimdal-7.3.0 • CWE-295: Improper Certificate Validation •

Heimdal before 7.4 allows remote attackers to impersonate services with Orpheus' Lyre attacks because it obtains service-principal names in a way that violates the Kerberos 5 protocol specification. In _krb5_extract_ticket() the KDC-REP service name must be obtained from the encrypted version stored in 'enc_part' instead of the unencrypted version stored in 'ticket'. Use of the unencrypted version provides an opportunity for successful server impersonation and other attacks. NOTE: this CVE is only for Heimdal and other products that embed Heimdal code; it does not apply to other instances in which this part of the Kerberos 5 protocol specification is violated. • http://www.debian.org/security/2017/dsa-3912 http://www.h5l.org/advisories.html?show=2017-07-11 http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/99551 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1038876 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1039427 https://github.com/heimdal/heimdal/releases/tag/heimdal-7.4.0 https://support.apple.com/HT208112 https://support.apple.com/HT208144 https://support.apple.com/HT208221 https://www.freebsd.org/security/advisories/FreeBSD-SA-17:05.heimdal.asc https://ww • CWE-345: Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity •

Buffer overflow in libtelnet/encrypt.c in telnetd in FreeBSD 7.3 through 9.0, MIT Kerberos Version 5 Applications (aka krb5-appl) 1.0.2 and earlier, Heimdal 1.5.1 and earlier, GNU inetutils, and possibly other products allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long encryption key, as exploited in the wild in December 2011. The gss_userok function in appl/ftp/ftpd/gss_userok.c in Heimdal 0.7.2 does not allocate memory for the ticketfile pointer before calling free, which allows remote attackers to have an unknown impact via an invalid username. NOTE: the vulnerability was originally reported for ftpd.c, but this is incorrect. • http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199207 http://marc.info/?l=full-disclosure&m=119704362903699&w=2 http://osvdb.org/44750 http://securitytracker.com/id?1019057 http://www.mandriva.com/security/advisories?name=MDKSA-2007:239 http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/26758 • CWE-119: Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer •

The (1) ftpd and (2) ksu programs in (a) MIT Kerberos 5 (krb5) up to 1.5, and 1.4.x before 1.4.4, and (b) Heimdal 0.7.2 and earlier, do not check return codes for setuid calls, which might allow local users to gain privileges by causing setuid to fail to drop privileges. NOTE: as of 20060808, it is not known whether an exploitable attack scenario exists for these issues. • ftp://ftp.pdc.kth.se/pub/heimdal/src/heimdal-0.7.2-setuid-patch.txt http://fedoranews.org/cms/node/2376 http://secunia.com/advisories/21402 http://secunia.com/advisories/21436 http://secunia.com/advisories/21439 http://secunia.com/advisories/21461 http://secunia.com/advisories/21467 http://secunia.com/advisories/21527 http://secunia.com/advisories/21613 http://secunia.com/advisories/23707 http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200608-21.xml http://securitytracker.c • CWE-264: Permissions, Privileges, and Access Controls •
