In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: EDAC/thunderx: Fix possible out-of-bounds string access Enabling -Wstringop-overflow globally exposes a warning for a common bug in the usage of strncat(): drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c: In function 'thunderx_ocx_com_threaded_isr': drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c:1136:17: error: 'strncat' specified bound 1024 equals destination size [-Werror=stringop-overflow=] 1136 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... 1145 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); ... 1150 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); ... Apparently the author of this driver expected strncat() to behave the way that strlcat() does, which uses the size of the destination buffer as its third argument rather than the length of the source buffer. The result is that there is no check on the size of the allocated buffer. Change it to strlcat(). [ bp: Trim compiler output, fixup commit message. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: add check that partition length needs to be aligned with block size Before calling add partition or resize partition, there is no check on whether the length is aligned with the logical block size. If the logical block size of the disk is larger than 512 bytes, then the partition size maybe not the multiple of the logical block size, and when the last sector is read, bio_truncate() will adjust the bio size, resulting in an IO error if the size of the read command is smaller than the logical block size.If integrity data is supported, this will also result in a null pointer dereference when calling bio_integrity_free. A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's block subsystem, where a NULL pointer dereference occurs if partitions are created or resized with a size that is not a multiple of the logical block size. • https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8f6dfa1f1efe6dcca2d43e575491d8fcbe922f62 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5010c27120962c85d2f421d2cf211791c9603503 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ef31cc87794731ffcb578a195a2c47d744e25fb8 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/cb16cc1abda18a9514106d2ac8c8d7abc0be5ed8 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/bcdc288e7bc008daf38ef0401b53e4a8bb61bbe5 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/6f64f866aa1ae6975c95d805ed51d7e9433a0016 https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2024/06/msg00017.html https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2023 • CWE-476: NULL Pointer Dereference •

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mtd: Fix gluebi NULL pointer dereference caused by ftl notifier If both ftl.ko and gluebi.ko are loaded, the notifier of ftl triggers NULL pointer dereference when trying to access ‘gluebi->desc’ in gluebi_read(). ubi_gluebi_init ubi_register_volume_notifier ubi_enumerate_volumes ubi_notify_all gluebi_notify nb->notifier_call() gluebi_create mtd_device_register mtd_device_parse_register add_mtd_device blktrans_notify_add not->add() ftl_add_mtd tr->add_mtd() scan_header mtd_read mtd_read_oob mtd_read_oob_std gluebi_read mtd->read() gluebi->desc - NULL Detailed reproduction information available at the Link [1], In the normal case, obtain gluebi->desc in the gluebi_get_device(), and access gluebi->desc in the gluebi_read(). However, gluebi_get_device() is not executed in advance in the ftl_add_mtd() process, which leads to NULL pointer dereference. The solution for the gluebi module is to run jffs2 on the UBI volume without considering working with ftl or mtdblock [2]. Therefore, this problem can be avoided by preventing gluebi from creating the mtdblock device after creating mtd partition of the type MTD_UBIVOLUME.
