A vulnerability in the privilege management functionality of all Cisco BroadWorks server types could allow an authenticated, local attacker to elevate privileges to root on an affected system. This vulnerability is due to incorrect implementation of user role permissions. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by authenticating to the application as a user with the BWORKS or BWSUPERADMIN role and issuing crafted commands on an affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute commands beyond the sphere of their intended access level, including initiating installs or running operating system commands with elevated permissions. There are workarounds that address this vulnerability. • https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-bw-priv-esc-qTgUZOsQ • CWE-269: Improper Privilege Management CWE-732: Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource •

A vulnerability in the scanning engines of Cisco AsyncOS Software for Cisco Secure Web Appliance could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass a configured rule, allowing traffic onto a network that should have been blocked. This vulnerability is due to improper detection of malicious traffic when the traffic is encoded with a specific content format. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using an affected device to connect to a malicious server and receiving crafted HTTP responses. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to bypass an explicit block rule and receive traffic that should have been rejected by the device. • https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-wsa-bypass-vXvqwzsj • CWE-202: Exposure of Sensitive Information Through Data Queries •

A vulnerability in the web-based management interface of Cisco BroadWorks CommPilot Application Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the interface. This vulnerability exists because the web-based management interface does not properly validate user-supplied input. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to click a crafted link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary script code in the context of the affected interface or access sensitive, browser-based information. • https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-commpilot-xss-jC46sezF • CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') •

OpenIDC/cjose is a C library implementing the Javascript Object Signing and Encryption (JOSE). The AES GCM decryption routine incorrectly uses the Tag length from the actual Authentication Tag provided in the JWE. The spec says that a fixed length of 16 octets must be applied. Therefore this bug allows an attacker to provide a truncated Authentication Tag and to modify the JWE accordingly. Users should upgrade to a version >= 0.6.2.2. • https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc7518#section-4.7 https://github.com/OpenIDC/cjose/commit/7325e9a5e71e2fc0e350487ecac7d84acdf0ed5e https://github.com/OpenIDC/cjose/releases/tag/v0.6.2.2 https://github.com/OpenIDC/cjose/security/advisories/GHSA-3rhg-3gf2-6xgj https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/08/msg00002.html https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/DFWAPMYYVBO2U65HPYDTBEKNSXG4TP5C https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-annou • CWE-327: Use of a Broken or Risky Cryptographic Algorithm •

A vulnerability in Cisco BroadWorks could allow an authenticated, local attacker to elevate privileges to the root user on an affected device. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation by the operating system CLI. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by issuing a crafted command to the affected system. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute commands as the root user. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker must have valid BroadWorks administrative privileges on the affected device. • https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-bw-privesc-yw4ekrXW • CWE-250: Execution with Unnecessary Privileges •
