The Mozilla Windows updater modifies some files to be updated by reading the original file and applying changes to it. The location of the original file can be altered by a malicious user by passing a special path to the callback parameter through the Mozilla Maintenance Service, allowing the manipulation of files in the installation directory and privilege escalation by manipulating the Mozilla Maintenance Service, which has privileged access. Note: This attack requires local system access and only affects Windows. Other operating systems are not affected. This vulnerability affects Firefox ESR < 52.2 and Firefox < 54. • http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/99057 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1038689 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1348645 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2017-15 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2017-16 • CWE-417: Communication Channel Errors •

In the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, Windows Defender SmartScreen honors the "SEE_MASK_FLAG_NO_UI" flag associated with downloaded files and will not show any UI. Files that are unknown and potentially dangerous will be allowed to run because SmartScreen will not prompt the user for a decision, and if the user is offline all files will be allowed to be opened because Windows won't prompt the user to ask what to do. Firefox incorrectly sets this flag when downloading files, leading to less secure behavior from SmartScreen. Note: this issue only affects Windows 10 users running the April 2018 update or later. It does not affect other Windows users or other operating systems. • http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/104136 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1040896 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1447080 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2018-11 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2018-12 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2018-13 •

Same-origin protections for the PDF viewer can be bypassed, allowing a malicious site to intercept messages meant for the viewer. This could allow the site to retrieve PDF files restricted to viewing by an authenticated user on a third-party website. This vulnerability affects Firefox ESR < 52.8 and Firefox < 60. • http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/104136 http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1040896 https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1414 https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1415 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1449898 https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2018/05/msg00007.html https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/201810-01 https://usn.ubuntu.com/3645-1 https://www.debian.org/security/2018/dsa-4199 https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2018-11&# • CWE-200: Exposure of Sensitive Information to an Unauthorized Actor CWE-346: Origin Validation Error CWE-829: Inclusion of Functionality from Untrusted Control Sphere •
