CVE-2024-50038 – netfilter: xtables: avoid NFPROTO_UNSPEC where needed
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2024-50038
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: xtables: avoid NFPROTO_UNSPEC where needed syzbot managed to call xt_cluster match via ebtables: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 11 at net/netfilter/xt_cluster.c:72 xt_cluster_mt+0x196/0x780 [..] ebt_do_table+0x174b/0x2a40 Module registers to NFPROTO_UNSPEC, but it assumes ipv4/ipv6 packet processing. As this is only useful to restrict locally terminating TCP/UDP traffic, register this for ipv4 and ipv6 family only. Pablo points out that this is a general issue, direct users of the set/getsockopt interface can call into targets/matches that were only intended for use with ip(6)tables. Check all UNSPEC matches and targets for similar issues: - matches and targets are fine except if they assume skb_network_header() is valid -- this is only true when called from inet layer: ip(6) stack pulls the ip/ipv6 header into linear data area. - targets that return XT_CONTINUE or other xtables verdicts must be restricted too, they are incompatbile with the ebtables traverser, e.g. EBT_CONTINUE is a completely different value than XT_CONTINUE. Most matches/targets are changed to register for NFPROTO_IPV4/IPV6, as they are provided for use by ip(6)tables. The MARK target is also used by arptables, so register for NFPROTO_ARP too. While at it, bail out if connbytes fails to enable the corresponding conntrack family. This change passes the selftests in iptables.git. • https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0269ea4937343536ec7e85649932bc8c9686ea78 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/85ff9a0f793ca52c527e75cd40a69c948627ebde https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8f482bb7e27b37f1f734bb9a8eeb28b23d59d189 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/997f67d813ce0cf5eb3cdb8f124da68141e91b6c https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4cdc55ec6222bb195995cc58f7cb46e4d8907056 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0bfcb7b71e735560077a42847f69597ec7dcc326 •
CVE-2024-50036 – net: do not delay dst_entries_add() in dst_release()
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2024-50036
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: do not delay dst_entries_add() in dst_release() dst_entries_add() uses per-cpu data that might be freed at netns dismantle from ip6_route_net_exit() calling dst_entries_destroy() Before ip6_route_net_exit() can be called, we release all the dsts associated with this netns, via calls to dst_release(), which waits an rcu grace period before calling dst_destroy() dst_entries_add() use in dst_destroy() is racy, because dst_entries_destroy() could have been called already. Decrementing the number of dsts must happen sooner. Notes: 1) in CONFIG_XFRM case, dst_destroy() can call dst_release_immediate(child), this might also cause UAF if the child does not have DST_NOCOUNT set. IPSEC maintainers might take a look and see how to address this. 2) There is also discussion about removing this count of dst, which might happen in future kernels. • https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f88649721268999bdff09777847080a52004f691 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/86e48c03d774e01ccd71ecba4fc4b5c2bc0b5b41 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/591b1e1bb40152e22cee757f493046a0ca946bf8 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/df90819dafcd6b97fc665f63a15752a570e227a2 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/9a4fe697023dbe6c25caa1f8b2153af869a29bd2 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/eae7435b48ffc8e9be0ff9cfeae40af479a609dd https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/3c7c918ec0aa3555372c5a57f18780b7a96c5cfc https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ac888d58869bb99753e7652be19a151df •

CVE-2024-50028 – thermal: core: Reference count the zone in thermal_zone_get_by_id()
https://notcve.org/view.php?id=CVE-2024-50028
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: thermal: core: Reference count the zone in thermal_zone_get_by_id() There are places in the thermal netlink code where nothing prevents the thermal zone object from going away while being accessed after it has been returned by thermal_zone_get_by_id(). To address this, make thermal_zone_get_by_id() get a reference on the thermal zone device object to be returned with the help of get_device(), under thermal_list_lock, and adjust all of its callers to this change with the help of the cleanup.h infrastructure. • https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1ce50e7d408ef2bdc8ca021363fd46d1b8bfad00 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c95538b286efc6109c987e97a051bc7844ede802 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/a42a5839f400e929c489bb1b58f54596c4535167 •
